Marktplatz Galerie, Bramfeld

The aim was to develop a forward-looking vision in the heart of Hamburg’s tradition-steeped Bramfeld district, on the brownfield land of an empty DIY store and an aging shopping arcade. In the direct context of Bramfeld market square with its active weekly markets and various public facilities, such as a public library and a medical and community centre, the idea of a shopping centre integrated into the district was realised. With a rental area of approx. 19,000 m², divided into 65 store units, a modern shopping centre on three levels was created. Not only did this create a valuable investment, with long term rental contracts and credit-worthy users (chain store ratio over 90%) plus high quality building construction; it also ensured the impulse for further development in the district. Since then, various investments have followed in the immediate vicinity – from the transformation of a former HERTIE store into a KAUFLAND store, to the redesign of Bramfeld market square. The district by Bramfeld market square has thus experienced a sustainable revitalisation overall.
